WATER . . . A WORLD CRISIS

A recent
UN Report
stated that “roughly 4,000 children”
die each day from water-borne illnesses. The same report targets bringing clean
water to 1.5 billion people in the next ten years. (13th session of the
Commission on Sustainable Development) The numbers are numbing in a way - it
seems so impossible to make a difference, but by reaching one family at a time,
we chip away at the staggering statistics. On a list of ten hopes for 2020, Battelle Institute lists #9 as “Worldwide Inexpensive and Safe Water”, but
recognizes that unless something new is invented, critical shortages may
develop. There are many ways to help a community get water.
For people in
remote rural locations the inexpensive way is the ceramic water filter!

The filters which
HEART donates have been awarded the ICAITA national award for a
simple economic solution. In addition, MIT has run extensive laboratory
tests on these same filters and have given a “thumbs up” on the
final product. According to their records, our filters deliver
water 99.95% pure free from e-coli, fecal coliform and several
other water borne contaminants. Filters are checked for proper
water flow to make sure that they are operational and safe.
